Satellite TV and Internet Service

Posted by Satellite TV and Internet Service on the August 10th, 2007

Even a few years ago, concept of a satellite TV and Internet service rolled into one seemed futuristic. But technological developments have made this concept a reality. While technology changes or researches into the same might be conducted with various objectives in mind, almost all developments end up aiding entertainment in one form or other. A classic example of this can be found in form of Internet. Developed by scientists for use by US army, it was released for use of general public at a later stage. But within a few years it became a leading medium of entertainment throughout the globe.

Use of satellites has been in vogue for a long time now. But in earlier times it was mainly used for technological reasons such as for weather forecasting and other similar purposes. It was also used for non-commercial and defense communication purposes. But in last decade or so satellites have been pressed more into commercial use. Even developing countries like India are sending their own satellites into space to add muscle to their commercial communication purposes. Among others, satellite TV and Internet service is one area where satellites are playing a major role.

Before inception of satellite TV via satellites orbiting in space, terrestrial signals transmitted through fixed towers were the norm. Terrestrial towers and signals transmitted by them were the only mode of broadcasting, but quality and clarity of video and audio received was not at all top notch. This is when satellite TV stepped into the market. There are several reasons which make satellite TV service a much better option as compared to other television systems. While recounting all those advantages offered by satellite TV would be difficult, considering constraints of space, following is a list of major advantages:

Digital Signals result in better quality

Satellite TV uses satellites located in geostationary orbit of earth for up linking and down linking purposes. That means that signals are up linked to specific transponders from where signals are again sent back via another set of transponders. The frequencies used in this case are different. This is done to avoid any confusion between the up linked and down linked signals. Signals coming from satellites, which provide feed to satellite TV and Internet service, are digital in nature and hence give better quality. Reason behind this is that digital signals are capable of packing in more information as compared to their analog counterparts.

Added Internet service

Due to the fact that digital signals can pack in more information, other ancillary services too can be provided via satellite TV. These include interactive television, much higher resolution of pictures etc. And that is without mentioning Internet services which led to this service being called satellite TV and Internet service.

As a result of advantages provided by satellite TV, it has become the most preferred service throughout. US has several satellite TV and Internet service providers and even other countries are now switching to satellite TV and Internet service. And in coming days satellite TV and Internet service is going to be the norm throughout the world.
